Ever bought a suit and noticed that the pockets and vents were stitched shut?
There’s a reason for this:
- Sewn pockets help the suit retain its shape and still look nice after countless people try it on in the store
- Sewn vents help the suit lay flat and smooth during the shipping process
Remember that suit pockets are functional. So the first thing you want to do before wearing it is to carefully clip the stitching of both pockets including the breast pocket.
I’ve dubbed this “the dreaded X”—a far too common fashion faux pas if you will—that I’ve seen men out in public commit.
Avoid this little mistake and clip the stitching on the vents before rocking that new suit.
