THE 2019 GENTLEMAN WITHIN HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR GUYS
We can all use a little more style in our lives. Here’s a handful of stylish picks for this holiday season.
Sherpa Adventure Gear is small brand making a big impact when it comes to human rights and environmentally conscious goods.
Founded in 2003 by Tashi Sherpa, the brand is a living memorial to the unsung heroes of Mt. Everest. According to Sherpa, they weave together the latest designs and technology with the rich heritage and time-honored beliefs of Nepal.
The Kirtipur Insulated Sweater is my pick of the pack. It’s named after a small village in Nepal where teams of women gather daily to handcraft these beautiful sweaters.
The Kirtipur is part of a line of products that for every product sold, Sherpa Adventure Gear provides education and resources for children in Nepal from elementary through college.
On top of this, the sweater is really high-quality, made with 100% lambswool and PrimaLoft Black Eco insulation, and so it’s ultra-warm and soft to the touch. I also like the sweater’s colorful pattern.
If you know someone who loves a cozy knit and is passionate about social causes, the Kirtipur would make for a great gift this year.
What’s Great About Them?
Sherpa Adventure Gear has great values. They work with manufacturing partners to create safe and ethical working conditions and are focused on providing economic and social stability to the people of Nepal through steady employment and educational opportunities for the youth.
2. Dr. Martens
The Dr. Martens boot was born in 1960 and quickly became a symbol of self expression. Today their boots not only hold icon status, but are stylish as ever.
Dr. Martens now carries a waterproof version of the original 1460 boot, equipped with a gold-standard, Goodyear-welted construction that’s heat-sealed. This rugged and durable boot would make the perfect gift for any stylish friend or family member.
In addition to the OG 1460 boot, I really like the 1461 Ambassador‘s classic derby design. It’s a rugged shoe with the solid Dr. Martens, AirWair sole and reinforced with their signature yellow welt stitch. It comes in a brown or black colorway.
And finally, if I were to choose another pair, it would be the 2976 DM’s WinterGrip Chelsea Boots. If you follow Gentleman Within regularly then you know that I love a good pair of Chelseas. It is on our list of essential shoes for men and awesome boot styles after all.
What I love about Dr. Martens’ Chelsea is that it has a classic silhouette, but is more rugged that your typical Chelsea boot. Add on a fleece lining, WinterGrip sole for traction and salt/water resistance, these Chelseas are built to make it through the harshest winters, in style.

Warby Parker was in last year’s gift guide and makes it again because they’re still my go-to frames to stay stylish while combating the sun’s UV rays.
For those who like to try before they buy, Warby Parker still offers a Home Try-On which allows you to test out a handful of glasses before ultimately deciding what’s best for you.
They also have an app that uses augmented reality, that way you can see what the frames will look like on your face. I’m surprised it took sunglasses companies so long to adopt the technology. Regardless, it’s super handy to see real-time what frames most flatter your face shape.
4. ALMI Apparel
Jonas Harris, the founder of ALMI Apparel reached out to me last year to test out their all new socks that they were launching on Kickstarter and I’ve been wearing them ever since, especially during the warmer months.
The idea behind ALMI is simple; to create performance socks for the active professional. The socks are designed to perform in both the office and the gym.
It’s hard to find a sock that has performance, style and function. And in my opinion, they’re more athletic looking and feeling than formal socks, but overall ALMI does a pretty good job striking a balance between the two.
These socks would make for a nice stocking stuffer for your friend who works at an office and frequents the workplace gym.
What They’ve Got:
ALMI recently refreshed their socks, offering 3 versatile colorways of black, blue and grey.
Where To Shop:
Anián is a Canada based company that offers practical garments for a variety of weather conditions and social events. They focus on sustainability by crafting their garments with recycled material, so instead of adding to the waste like fast fashion, they’re literally turning garbage into gold.
Gift these shirts for the stylish outdoorsy type or anyone who just likes being comfortable and well-put together.

For the cooler weather I like the Modern Melton Overshirt. I opted for the heather grey colorway. It’s got such a tight weave that it’s both wind and water resistant.
Additionally, the 14 oz. wool shirt is made of 80% recycled wool + 20% nylon. It’s got a really nice weight to it, perfect for a brisk morning while still looking sharp.
You can shop Anian directly on their website.
Yup, more socks. Except these ones are ready-made for formalwear.
Proudly knit in the USA, Boardroom Socks is a family owned operation. They’re committed to providing a high-quality product with excellent customer service, all while keeping manufacturing in America. Not an easy feat.
I’ve been emailing back and forth with Nathan James, President of Boardroom Socks for a little while now and we’ve talked about working together in some way, and so I’m happy to be able to include them in this year’s holiday gift guide. Their mission is one that’s worth getting onboard with.
As for their socks, you can find over the calf (OTC), mid-calf options in merino wool and pima cotton. The socks aren’t flashy which is a good thing for the boardroom, but they do offer your basic solids and interesting stripe and dot pattern designs.
I’m currently testing their OTC merino wool dress socks in neutral khaki, olive and brown (still getting used to OTC socks). I also picked up a pair of midnight navy pima cotton socks which have a super soft and smooth finish.
And finally for a little fun, I picked up the more casual weekend sock. It’s donegal wool socks with a khaki twist tweed. The colorful flecks are a fun detail and gives the sock a unique appeal.
Where To Shop:
Here’s a fun strategy game and an addictively, fun writing instrument.
Deblockle is a fun board game that’s all about strategy. Similar to chess, but more fun in my opinion.
Not only is it enjoyable with family and friends, but it has a compelling game design. Made with solid wood and teal & gold accent colors, Deblockle makes for a nice piece of home decor in addition to being a really fun game.
Deblockle is the type of game for anyone who loves the strategy of chess or checkers, and it also makes for a wonderful wood gift idea.
GPCA has a bolt action tactical pen, made in memory of the end of World War II in 1945.
The GP 1945 Bolt Action Plus Pen is not just a pen. It’s a survival multi-tone whistle, a glass breaker, quick measurement reference, and it writes well. It’s well-built out of titanium and aluminum and holds custom ink cartridges with 1.0mm medium point.
Go ahead and get this for the person in your life that loves ergonomic, functional gadgets.
What’s Cool About It?
While there’s a handful of reasons to love this pen, the best feature to me is the ergonomic feeling in my hand. The bolt action glides smoothly, it’s both fun and addictive. I never thought I’d ever say that about a pen, but I said it. It’s one helluva useful pen.
Where To Get It?
These gift ideas are for the travelers and outdoorsy types who like to move around and get out into the wild.
I’ve been a longtime customer of Anson Calder ever since very first Kickstarter of their original card wallets. I supported the Kickstarter back in 2014 if I remember correctly, and I’m happy to report that it’s still my go-to wallet because of its minimalist, stylish nature.
A great thing about AC products is the full-grain, French calfskin leather that fades into a nice patina overtime. I recently received a passport wallet and will be making good use of it for any international travels in 2020.
Pick up a passport wallet with RFID to keep your credit card information safe from harm. You can never be too safe these days. And remember to keep your passport with you at all times, either on your body or in a bag compartment close to your back.
Anson Calder is running a 2019 Black Friday Special now thru 12/9/19. Earn $20 towards a future purchase when you spend $100. Get $50 with $200 spend and earn $300 with $1000 spend.
What do you look for in a backpack or tote? Something comfortable, well made, functional, and stylish? Safe to say YETI nails all of these. YETI’s All-Day bags are thoughtfully designed with the user in mind, and made with rugged materials like ripstop nylon.
Perhaps my favorite function of the Crossroads Backpack 23 is the clam-shell style opening for easy access and the fact that it has a sturdy stand-up base which is super clutch. All the bags I have don’t stand up on their own.
Additionally, they’ve got all the pockets and storage you’ll need and come in 3 versatile colorways of black, navy and grey.
Know someone who could use a bag upgrade? YETI’s got you covered.
Go ahead and pick up a YETI Tumbler, which will slide perfectly into your new Crossroads bag. The backpack actually has magnetic hatch pockets that will hold your Rambler then collapse when not in use.

Do you enjoy camping and backpacking adventures? Or maybe you know someone who does. The REI Magma sleeping bag is a thoughtful gift that will keep you or a friend warm and comfortable during those freezing nights out in the wild.

REI’s Magma 15 is super light at just 1 lb. 14 oz. for the long and 1 lb. 12 oz. for the regular. It easily compresses and opens up and has a temperature rating of 16 degrees (F).
What’s Great About It?
With a 850-fill-power goose down that’s RDS certified and bluesign approved, and a ripstop nylon lining, the REI Magma sleeping bag is not only well-made, but made to last.
I personally like the mummy shape design which provides ample room to move around and conforms to my body’s shape.

It’s winter and it’s cold, so let’s talk outerwear. Outdoor United is a new brand that’s on a mission to produce stylish clothing, responsibly. They’re dedicated to transparent production, eco-friendly and recycled fabrics while producing 100% cruelty-free garments, and so they don’t use animal products.
By turning trash into fashionable fabrics Outdoor United is able to create high-quality, sustainable goods. This is what they stand for, but how about the gear?
Just like the Greek God himself, The Outdoor United Hercules Storm Coat is mighty.
The Hercules is a luxurious, faux fur lined parka. It’s heavy-duty and designed to keep you warm in the coldest of temperatures, but it doesn’t sacrifice style either.
It features a Primaloft Black insulation, adjustable hood & waist cord, cuff snaps, two-way metal zippers and multiple utility pockets. It’s also wind and water resistant, as they say — it’s built for winter’s worst.
If you’ve been looking for a high quality, well made parka to brace the harshest of winters, get this one for yourself.

13. FITS Socks
I gotta admit, getting socks for Christmas as a kid wasn’t my favorite, but how times have changed.
FITS have some of my favorite socks, I’ve even gifted a few pairs myself. They offer a wide variety of sock cuts from no-show socks and quarter length to boot and over the calf socks. FITS has sock styles for everything from hiking and running to skiing and cycling.
All of their socks are made primarily of merino wool which is a underutilized, yet excellent fabric for socks. We’re often on our feet all day and so it helps to have comfortable, well-designed socks to keep our feet feeling good for longer.
FITS Socks make for a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone in your life because we could all use better socks.
Just like in last year’s gift guide, I still swear by the Heavy Expedition Boot cut socks for cold winters and long hikes. Made with 100% merino wool and cold weather insulation, it feels like you’re walking on a cloud of cotton balls. For warmer weather, the Light Hiker is a great option.

What can I say, I love my Sony A6400. I got it back in the summertime and it’s been one of the best investments I’ve made all year. If you know someone who creates digital content for a living, this Sony A6400 is definitely worth looking into.
Who Is It For?
The A6400 is an excellent grab and go camera, perfect for any aspiring photographers or anyone who wants to level up their photography and videos without the heft and bulk of a full frame camera.
It’s easy to use and has an exceptional autofocus. Plus the flip screen is really convenient if you’re a vlogger or create lots of video content in general, much like I do.

Radix Products was founded by designer Arthur Wu. They’re all about minimalist lifestyle products with thoughtful design at affordable prices.
At Radix, they believe in sustainability, no animal products, fair pricing and ethical sourcing — all of which are admirable values.
My pick is the Radix Action Pack which is ideal for that outdoorsy friend who could use the extra protection for their valuables.
What’s Cool About It:
The Radix Action Pack is way cooler than a fanny pack and serves an even better function. Its patented design has a waterproof inner pouch that’s double sealed to keep your important gadgets or electronics safe from splashing and rain.
While the strap is not the most ergonomic design, it does work. It has a cool Fidlock buckle that opens and closes magnetically. Just effortlessly glide it on or off. Amazon has the Radix Action Pack for $5 less than the website.
Leatherman is an American brand, based in Oregon that focuses on home improvement tools. They started with a pliers based, multi-purpose tool and have evolved it ever since. Today they offer multi-tools, knives, pocket tools and other wearables.
Leatherman’s best-seller, The Wingman is a multi-purpose, pliers based tool that has a myriad of functions — 14 to be exact.

The in-hand feeling is ergonomic and the tools provide effortless functionality for when you need it. It’s just a great item for that EDC lover in your life.
Where To Get It?
Because we can all use a little bit of tender lovin’ self-care.
When I first got my hands on Ezra Arthur’s leather goods, my first thought was, “man, that’s some high quality leather”. From cash fold wallets to belts, bracelets and notebooks, Ezra Arthur has the goods.
A bit about the brand, Ezra Arthur is owned by four brothers who honor their grandfather by crafting lifestyle accessories worthy of his name.
These gifts are perfect for anyone who has an appreciation for high-quality, hand-crafted leather goods.
Forget the standard cube style toiletry bag, Ezra Arthur’s Flat Folio Dopp Kit is tasteful, unique and stylish. It’s made with full grain Horween leather from Chicago, Illinois and hand crafted in Phoenix, Arizona.
For the details there are sturdy brass snaps and hand-stitched detailing, and the Chromexcel leather has stain and water resistant qualities.
Sure you can use it for your grooming products, but it also doubles as a holder for small tablets and electronic accessories too.
I don’t use it every single day, because it’s an extra step and I don’t always have the time. But it seriously works to help keep oily skin in check for longer. Normally my face gets oily just a few hours after washing in the morning.
But when I apply Menaji’s liquid powder, it does a good job in absorbing excess oil and eliminating shine, resulting in a nice matte finish.
Where To Get It:
You can also check out other Menaji products on Amazon.
When it comes to treating and healing dry skin, Lubriderm Advanced Therapy Lotion is the real deal.
Lubriderm has long been a dermatologist-developed brand and so you know it has ingredients that will nourish, protect and heal rather than harm your skin. This stuff’s formulated with vitamins E and B5 plus skin-essential lipids found in healthy skin.
Every year during the winter time, I suffer from dry and ashy skin. But since I’ve started using Lubriderm, it has been working wonders and my skin has been feeling less itchy and more healthy looking as a result.
Gift this for someone who could use a little hydration and replenishment of their dry skin.
Where To Get It:
I never imagined I’d make use of what traditionally is thought of as a women’s cosmetic product. But since I tested the Stryx Concealer Tool earlier this year, I opened my mind to it.
It’s not necessary to use concealer daily, only when you need it. For example, minor breakouts, pimples, a scratch or a rash are all good reasons to use concealer.
It’s been a while and I haven’t been able to find my Stryx concealer (it’s somewhere in a jacket pocket I’m sure), but it’s something I have no issue carrying around with me as I go about my day.
What’s Cool About It?
It actually works well to conceal minor blemishes, and comes in a sleek form-factor that looks more like a pen, so if you’re embarrassed about it, no one will know anyway.
Stryx would make for a perfect stocking stuffer this year. The stigma around men wearing makeup needs to go away. There’s no problem if a man wants to use a little bit of cover up to give him a boost of confidence.
I’ve used some really good hair sprays in the past and KMS HAIRSTAY is right up there with the best of them. It’s quick to dry with a strong hold and no flaky residue. And it keeps my hair in check throughout the day.
When I have longer hair, I usually don’t want it getting in my face or messy in the wind and so the solution is to finish off my hairstyle with a quick spray, 10-12″ away for a few seconds.
And then I hit it with a cool blast from the blow dryer to lock it in. After that I’m set for the entire day and don’t have to worry about my hair getting out of control.
If you’ve been looking for a solid hairspray, go pick this up for yourself.
Where To Get It:
You can get KMS HAIRSTAY on Amazon.
Fresh Pine makes organic bars of soap for men, made from ingredients of pine, clove and cedarwood.
I wanted to include them in this gift guide because after testing out their soaps for a couple of months, I really enjoyed the scent and feeling on my skin and think other people should know about options beyond the traditional bars of soap in the grocery aisles.
It’s 2019 and Ford decided to launch a fragrance for the iconic Ford Mustang car, in red of course. I’ve been wearing it since summer and it’s actually a really nice scent. I like how masculine it is. And I feel that it’s versatile enough to wear during the day or night and in any season.
Get this one for any Ford car lover, you can’t go wrong.
These are the items that don’t quite fit into the other categories, but are all fantastic gift ideas. I’d even say they’re things you didn’t know you need until you have ’em!

The Mr. Bento Stainless Lunch Jar from Zojirushi contains 4 microwaveable inner bowls, a forked spoon with cover and carrying bag.
What’s great about these bento jars is the stainless steel construction and vacuum insulation which keeps soups and food divided and hot or cold for long periods of time.
They come in 7 different colors so there’s a style to fit anyone’s preference. They are also made of BPA-free plastic and stainless steel.
Who Is It For?
If you know someone who always packs their lunch to work or school, then the bento lunch jar will make for an ideal gift this holiday.
Where To Get It?
Takeya water bottles are crafted with stainless steel and double-wall, vacuum insulation to keep your drinks ice cold for 24 hours or steaming hot for up to 12 hrs.
To aid in durability and functionality, there’s a removable protective bumper made with silicone at the bottom of each bottle.
If you or someone you know works out regularly or are often on-the-go, Takeya water bottles are a perfect gift. Plus, no more one-use cups or toxic plastics, a bonus if they’re environmentally responsible.
I’d go with the 24oz Actives Straw Bottle. It’s not too big or too small; the perfect size to fit in a car cup holder or treadmill at the gym.
And that concludes The 2019 Gentleman Within Holiday Gift Guide. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from the GW family to yours.
