THE 2020 GENTLEMAN WITHIN HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR GUYS
Below are my newly curated gift ideas for the 2020 holiday season and a handful making a return.
Premium Rocks Glasses
As a whiskey 🥃 aficionado, I’m absolutely loving these Whiskey Peaks hand-blown whiskey glasses. They’re made of lightweight yet durable lead-free glass and feature raised topographic impressions of the world’s greatest mountains.
My recommendation is the international mountains set featuring Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Fuji, Mt. Everest and the Matterhorn. Huckberry offers free U.S. shipping on $98+ and free returns through January.
A Great Read (Or Listen)
Reading is such an undervalued habit. Some of the wealthiest and most influential leaders are voracious readers, from Bill Gates to Mark Cuban and Warren Buffet to Elon Musk. It’s no surprise then, that reading books is a key ingredient to success.
In 2020, I’ve slowly cultivated the habit of reading at least a half hour before I go to bed. I’ve now read through more books in 2020 than the past 5 years combined. And yes, audiobooks count too!
Here are some of my favorites from this year:
- A Promised Land by Barack Obama (audio recommended)
- The Wealthy Gardener by John Soforic
- Start With Why by Simon Sinek
- The Practice by Seth Godin
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
- Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl
- Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey (audio recommended)
- Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half The Story by Jewel
- Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable by Tim Grover
- The Richest Man In Babylon by George Clayson
- The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley
- Rise of the Youpreneur by Chris Ducker
A New Samsung Galaxy Phone
As a longtime Samsung Galaxy user, I’ll admit I’m a little biased here. But there’s no denying the popularity of Samsung devices. This season (IMHO), there’s no other phone that packs as much punch and has as much value as the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition).
The Galaxy S20 FE boasts flagship features with a price tag much lower than that of its pricier siblings (S20+ and Ultra) without sacrificing much in terms of specs.
I upgraded from my S7 last month to the FE and I’m amazed by all that it can do. There’s also a wide range of cool colors to choose from to satisfy the pickiest of tastes. If you’re a Samsung fan already and in need of a phone upgrade, look no further than the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.
Stylish And Sustainable
I like to highlight brands that emphasize sustainability, because the fashion industry could use much more of that. Nisolo is a brand that I’ve worked with in the past, and I can attest to their product’s longevity. I currently own a pair of Nisolo Huarache Sandals in tobacco and the Diego Low Top Sneaker in tobacco.

Nisolo‘s vision is to push the fashion industry in a more sustainable direction. They create intentionally designed, ethically made and fairly priced goods. For a deeper dive into their sustainability rating, check out Good On You, an online directory that explores how ethical and sustainable fashion brands actually are. Nisolo is currently rated as Good (4/5), which is an excellent score.
I personally recommend the elevated Cordoba Backpack. It’s handmade with vegetable tanned leather sourced from León, Mexico. It’s the perfect bag for stylish men on the go.
Another accessory to pairs well with the leather backpack is a pair of blue light blocking glasses by Sunski. We often spend hours each day looking at our computer screens and mobile devices. Protect your eyes from harmful blue light and enjoy a more comfortable night’s sleep.
A Simple Swiss Made Watch
Mondaine is a watch brand that’s inspired by a blueprint of the iconic patented design of the Swiss Railways Clock, originally designed by Hans Hilfiker, a Swiss Engineer in 1944.
Its design is every bit as classic as it is iconic. The Mondaine watch face is extraordinarily readable with its bold hour hands, minute hands, and hash marks.
As a graphic designer by trade, they had me at Helvetica, which is one of their collections characterized by a balanced, harmonious presentation—featuring (almost) every designer’s favorite typeface.
I recommend the Official Swiss Railways Simply Elegant watch. It features a classic contrasting watch face with a black leather strap. And though it’s a dressier watch, it’s still casual with a modern appearance. You can get one in varying sizes of 36mm, 38mm or 41mm.
A Ring To Rule Them All
The Oura Ring is a personal health tracking device that makes accurate health information accessible to the one who wears it. It tracks key signals from your body to deliver critical insights to help you build good habits and make smarter health decisions. Specifically, Oura tracks your readiness, activity and sleep performance.
Where Oura really excels is providing you with accurate, in-depth sleep vitals. Oura Ring provides a personalized measure of your sleep quality, stages, and duration. It also helps you optimize your bedtime routine and provides insights to gradually improve your sleep.
What Oura tracks while you sleep:
- Total Sleep
- Sleep Efficiency
- REM Sleep
- Deep Sleep
- Sleep Latency
I recently picked one up as an early Christmas gift to myself and I can’t wait to see how I can use it to better optimize my overall sleep and well-being.
An Elevated Accessory
Accessories are a simple way for stylish men to flex their sartorial muscles. It’s easy to go overboard though. With these minimal cuff bracelets from Oliver Cabell, you’ll elevate any casual or dapper look.
Crafted by expert jewelers, these cuff bracelets are made in 14k gold & silver and engraved with a small “Oliver Cabell” logo. They’re minimal and elegant pieces that would make for a great stocking stuffer for that special man or woman in your life.
A Dashing Display Piece
Have a friend who has an eye for design, loves the arts and perhaps the occasional drink? This hand blown glass decanter by Anna Karlin Studios makes for a perfect display piece.
Anna Karlin is a designer who works in NYC. Her work consists of the fine and the elegant. You can check out some of her other work here.
Some Fresh Home Essentials
Brooklinen offers home essentials at a fair price by cutting out the middleman, bypassing wholesaling costs, storefronts and licensing fees—passing savings onto you.
In addition to bed sheets and bath towels, Brooklinen carries comfortable loungewear pieces like henleys, sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers.
A Cheaper iPhone
I’m an Android guy when it comes to phones, but I won’t deny the impeccable design and accessibility of Apple products. Steve Jobs revolutionized the industry with the original iPhone, but prices have increased exponentially since inception.
That said, if you’re on a budget and know someone who’s an Apple fanatic, the new iPhone SE would make for the perfect techy stocking stuffer. It’s the Apple iPhone’s most affordable offering with every bit of that Apple flair.
A Leather Weekender
Dooney & Bourke was founded in 1975 in Norwalk, Connecticut. Their designs combine timeless American style with a high regard for materials, craftsmanship and functionality.
For the stylish man on the go, a leather duffle bag is an essential. I recommend the Florentine Medium Duffle in tan. Made with Florentine leather, it’s a statement piece that’s stylish, practical and timeless in its design.
Stay Masked Up
In 2020, no other item in the fashion industry is as essential as the face mask, not sweatpants nor house slippers. But are masks a passing pandemic fad or will they have staying power?
I can’t predict what will happen to masks once things begin to settle, but several of the big players in the fashion industry (Uniqlo, Gap, and Adidas) are now selling them.
This defining trend of 2020 is certainly here to stay, at least for another year if I had to guess. And since we have to wear ’em, might as well pick up quality yet still stylish ones.
Here are the face masks that I wear and recommend:
- Uniqlo Airism Face Mask (3-pack)
- American Eagle Training Masks (5-pack)
- New Republic Black Face Mask (3-pack)
A Daily Mindfulness Practice
I believe that everyone can benefit from some sort of daily meditation and mindfulness practice. I personally use Calm app for guided meditation and sleep stories. With meditation, you can train your mind to relax. Your head and your heart will thank you for it.
I’ve also begun daily intentional breathing techniques via the Wim Hof Method. I find it very meditative in a sense and instantly feel better after each practice.
Figure out what works for you, whether that’s taking a few mindful deep breaths anytime you’re feeling stressed or reminding yourself of all the things you’re grateful for each night before bed.
A Special Delivery
Delivery services have become more commonplace over the past handful of years. And in 2020, the pandemic has caused the proliferation of direct delivery in place of in-store shopping. Daily Harvest started with offering smoothies and has since branched off into oat bowls, soups, flatbreads and lattes.
You can customize how often deliveries happen and pause if you want to take a temporary break. Daily Harvest is perfect for busy professionals who struggle with finding time for that healthy breakfast or anyone who just enjoys a healthy, nourishing food.
A Vacuum That Sucks
We’ve all had vacuums that don’t provide enough suction making you wonder if it’s actually cleaning your carpet at all. That’s not the case with Dyson. Dyson is known for their powerful and intelligent cordless vacuums that provides twice the suction of any other cordless vacuum.
My recommendation is the Dyson V11 vacuum. It’s got Dyson DLS (Dynamic Load Sensor) technology that automatically adjusts power across different floor types for the right balance of power and run time. These sleek vacuums are sure to get the job done, performing just as good if not better than they look.
A Durable Backpack & Tote
What do you look for in a backpack or tote? Something comfortable, well made, functional, and stylish? Safe to say YETI nails all of these. YETI’s All-Day bags are thoughtfully designed with the user in mind, and made with rugged materials like ripstop nylon.
Perhaps my favorite function of the Crossroads Backpack 23 is the clam-shell style opening for easy access and the fact that it has a sturdy stand-up base which is super clutch. All the bags I have don’t stand up on their own.
Additionally, they’ve got all the pockets and storage you’ll need and come in 3 versatile colorways of black, navy and grey. Know someone who could use a bag upgrade? YETI’s got you covered.
Go ahead and pick up a YETI Tumbler, which will slide perfectly into your new Crossroads bag. The backpack actually has magnetic hatch pockets that will hold your Rambler then collapse when not in use.
A Quality Writing Instrument
Everyone needs a good pen in their life. Machine Era’s take it to the next level in quality and design.
Their latest model is from the Field Pen Line: The Twist, an effortless gel writer from Itoya. With ink, made in Japan and a mechanism made in Germany, Machine Era pens are clearly well made. It weighs in at a hefty 1.4 oz, and it feels good in hand.
Machine Era pens make for a great gift to commemorate a special achievement in someone’s life. Or a really sweet Christmas gift, too.
They are sexy pens, no doubt about it. But there’s more than meets the eye. From the field pen, to the brass and stainless steel — they’re top notch, highest of quality instruments, sure to take your writing game to the next level.
Where To Get It?
A Wingman By Your Side

Leatherman’s best-seller, The Wingman is a multi-purpose, pliers based tool that has a myriad of functions — 14 to be exact.

The in-hand feeling is ergonomic and the tools provide effortless functionality for when you need it. It’s just a great item for that EDC lover in your life.

Never Lose Your Stuff Again
How many times have you misplaced your keys, phone, wallet, tv remote or laptop? Too many to count I’m sure. And it always seems to be during the most inconvenient of times. Well, The Tile App is a simple solution to that frustrating situation.
Tiles are small, Bluetooth-enabled devices that ring when you tap the ‘find’ button on your phone’s Tile app. Check here to see more about how it works.
Tile is essentially a finder for all your things — whether it be a phone, keys or baby (kidding about that last one). If you know someone who’s forgetful and always losing their things, Tile is a handy device to help him get his things together so he’s not always running late!
A Knife For The Occasion
W&P’s premise is simple; to provide a fresh perspective in food and drink through thoughtfully designed and innovated products. They make eye-catching products for your kitchen, bar, bookshelf and beyond.
They believe that every interaction with food and drink is an opportunity for creativity and community. It’s no surprise that their products are all beautifully crafted with an emphasis on design and functionality.

Whether you or someone you know is hosting the next get together or likes to spend a day picnicking, W&P’s knife set makes for an excellent gift. Check out their entire collection of products.
And that wraps things up on the Gentleman Within Holiday Gift Guide for 2020. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our family to yours.
