This is the first of a new series here at Gentleman Within called Style Spotlight, where I highlight noteworthy brands and products that should be on your radar.
Style Spotlight Vol. 1 features Mission Workshop’s high performance bomber jacket.
I’ve written plenty about this classic jacket style in the past including a comprehensive lookbook on how to wear a bomber jacket. This post sheds light on why this bomber jacket is so special as well as highlight some of the jacket’s details.
THE MISSION WORKSHOP BOMBER JACKET
THE DESIGN
The Mission Workshop bomber jacket puts a contemporary spin on the original MA-1 bomber jacket. It’s clearly evolved from the MA-1 with its trademark ribbed collar and cuffs. A major difference is that the bottom hem is distinctly non-ribbed, giving it a more modern silhouette.
Mission Workshop incorporates advanced technology in the design of The Mission Bomber. It sports an elevated aesthetic with clean lines. The jacket is crisp with the ability to perform in wide-ranging environments and temperatures.
The Mission Bomber is designed to be layered with as little as a t-shirt or as much as a woven shirt and sweater for temperatures ranging from 32°F (0°C) to 70°F (21°C).
THE TEXTILES
The exterior of the jacket is made from a refined stretch-woven textile made for Mission Workshop by Mectex M.I.S. in Como, Italy. It features a smooth face with subtle texture and water repellent (DWR) finish for use in drizzle or light rain.
Just under the exterior is a high performance insulation by Gold Active, which has a high warmth-to-weight ratio, and provides stretch and breathability.
The Jacket comes fully-lined with textiles that provide ultra-high-performance to keep you warm when it’s chilly outside and cool when things heat up. It’s this kind of versatility that makes The Mission Bomber one of a kind.
