Today we’ve got something new at Gentleman Within. This marks the very first grooming related article, the first of hopefully many more to come.
If you’re into men’s style or grooming then chances are you’ve heard the name Tiege Hanley. It’s a relatively new line of “uncomplicated skincare for men,” founded by perhaps the most popular men’s style/lifestyle YouTuber, Aaron Marino of Alpha M.
Let me preface this blog post by saying that this is not a review, just a preliminary first look of Tiege Hanley. I plan to use it for the next month and see what kind of results I get. If it works for me and is worthy of the recommendation, I’ll drop a follow up post and video.
As always, hit the play button below to watch the video.
THE SKIN CARE JOURNEY
There comes a point in a man’s life when he begins to take proper skincare seriously. The ladies have always been on top of it, but men seemingly take a while to catch up.
For me it was the realization that I’m getting old and I won’t have youthful skin forever. I haven’t had any breakouts in a long time, but will get the occasional pimple and whiteheads which is always a nuisance. But of course a proper skincare regimen can help to combat these issues.
As for Tiege, I’ve been hearing about this brand for years now, and so I was excited when they reached out with the offer to send me a level 3 system.
I’ve had a pretty solid skincare regimen over the past few years and it’s been working for the most part. The thing is, it’s a mishmash of different brands. Like other guys, I’ve been experimenting over the years, trying to find the right products for my skin.
MY CURRENT SKIN CARE REGIMEN
1) Every Man Jack (Post Shave) Face Lotion
I’ve been using this face lotion the past two years after every shave. It has a cooling sensation and helps to protect and heal the skin.
2) Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash
This face wash from The Body Shop has been my go-to for several years now and I’ll have a hard time relinquishing it. What I love about it is the scent and how effective it’s been. When I started using it 3 years back, my face noticeably cleared up.
3) Ursa Major Face Tonic
This one I use infrequently, probably 2x a week max. It’s very effective though. A few sprays on a cotton swab and as I begin to rub my face, especially the T-zone, I see noticeable dirt and grime wiped off my face, and that’s after using a facial wash beforehand.
4) Nylea Blackhead Remover Mask
This one was a one and done, well twice and done kind of thing. It simply didn’t work. The first time I used it, I applied too little and so the second time I really put it on. I had high hopes for this one, but it simply didn’t work for me.
5) Majestic Pure Dead Sea Mud Mask
After the black mask fail, I decided to search for a killer mud mask and came across this highly reviewed one by Majestic Pure on Amazon. After several uses, I’m really liking it and I feel as if it’s making my skin smoother and visibly clearer. And so I’m going to continue with this one, regardless of what skin care system I try.
6) Every Man Jack Eye Cream
I used Brickell’s eye balm before this eye cream and it was stellar. After I ran out, I decided to try out other brands and so I went for Every Man Jack since I was already a fan of the post shave lotion. After extended use, I prefer Brickell over this one.
7) The Body Shop Face Protector
This maca root face protector contains SPF 15. It’s always nice when you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, but the scent is a bit odd and so I don’t use it all the time, even though I probably should always apply a moisturizer with SPF.
8) Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
The fragrance free Cetaphil is a tried and true daily moisturizer. Buy a jar and it can last a long time. The thing with Cetaphil though is that it makes my skin oilier than it already is and so an alternative might be beneficial.
THE TIEGE HANLEY SKIN CARE SYSTEM
Enter the Tiege System.
I’m pretty excited about Tiege because it’s a comprehensive skincare regimen that seemingly has all the essentials and simplifies the entire process which is a godsend for most men (myself included).
Their level 1 system comes with the daily face wash, 2x per week facial scrub, and the AM/PM facial moisturizers.
Level 2 introduces the AM/PM anti-aging eye cream, and level 3 equips you with the super serum, which should be interesting to test out.
1) Daily Face Wash (Level 1)
The Tiege fragrance free daily face wash removes dirt, grime and excess oil while reducing redness and inflammation. Pretty much what I’d expect from a good face wash.
2) Facial Exfoliating Scrub (Level 1)
After cleaning with the daily face wash, it’s time to exfoliate. In order to remove old/dead skin cells to help bring to surface the young/fresh ones, you’ve gotta exfoliate. This scrub contains crushed apricot seeds, Vitamin B3, cucumber extract and menthyl lactate to help smooth and repair the skin.
3) AM/PM Facial Firming Super Serum (Level 3)
If you opt for Tiege’s level 3 system, you’ll want to apply this super serum containing antioxidants, vitamins and anti-aging ingredients to improve your skin tone and keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay. Sounds great, but I’d rather see result than read about ’em.
4) AM/PM Anti-Aging Eye Cream (Level 2 & 3)
The anti-aging eye cream comes in Tiege’s level 2 and 3 systems. At this point in my life, eye cream has become a daily essential. To fight the aging process, this eye cream is said to increase circulation, fight puffiness and dark circles while taming those pesky crows feet, all with the help of caffeine and acetyl hexapeptide-8.
5) Morning Facial Moisturizer w/SPF 20 (Level 1)
I love that Tiege has an morning and bedtime moisturizer. Tiege’s morning moisturizer helps to keep your face hydrated and protected from harmful UV rays. The morning application is equipped with SPF 20 which is always great when you can kill two birds with one stone. Protecting our skin from harmful UV rays is imperative yet so many neglect it.
6) Bedtime Facial Moisturizer (Level 1)
The bedtime moisturizer helps to repair the skin to replenish and regenerate while you sleep. It’s said to reduce fine lines, attack wrinkles and increase collagen production. Lots of talk, but I’m excited to see if it actually works.
IN THE END
I’m really looking forward to giving the Tiege Hanley skin care system a test drive.
I’ve heard so much about it and there are countless other men’s style and grooming YouTubers reviewing and documenting their mostly positive experiences with it that I figured I’d give it a shot as well.
A note: Tiege Hanley reached out and provided a level 3 system complimentary. Any thoughts and opinions are always my own whether I’m compensated or not.
If you’ve tried Tiege Hanley, how was the experience for you?
Let’s continue the discussion over in the Gentlemen Within Private Facebook Community.
