The cardigan is often misunderstood as a garment for old men, but contrary to popular belief, cardigans can and should be worn by us younger gents too.
The Everlane Felted Merino Cardigan (updated to sweater polo) is made of 100% merino wool and designed to not only keep you warm, but also stylish.
Before we start, you can learn more about the brand in my comprehensive Everlane review.
Everlane Felted Merino Cardigan Review
Just like the their Felted Merino Hoodie Everlane’s Felted Merino Cardigans have yarns that were boiled and washed to create a soft and dense fabric, scratch not included.
The design is more modern as Everlane decided to forgo pockets completely for a cleaner drape. It features a 5 button enclosure and simple ribbing at the cuffs, waist and gig line.
I picked up the charcoal (dark gray) color which is one of the more versatile colors that you can wear. As of now, they only carry charcoal, but should replenish with other colors again soon.
Everlane Felted Merino Cardigan: How Does It Feel & Fit?
This cardigan fits better than many of the chunky knit variety. While the chunky knit cardigan is much thicker and has more functional value, it’s not as clean and classic as Everlanes.
Everlane’s cardigans are fitted in the body and through the arms. Surprisingly the length of the body and the sleeves is proper too. At 5’6″ I often struggle to find properly fitting cardigan sweaters as they’re almost always too baggy and too long. In addition to a clean fit, the felted merino wool has a luxurious feel, almost like cashmere.
It looks great with chinos, minimal sneakers, a button down shirt and necktie combination. Smart casual at its finest. I even layered on the more rugged tan field jacket (see below) just to keep things interesting.
